I know we have some folks on here who live in Italy or have lived in Italy. What type of store does one go to in the city of Rome to purchase packing/shipping materials such as different-sized boxes, tubes, bubble wrap, padded envelopes, etc.? I know there are several shipping places like Mail Boxes Etc., and others; I am not interested in going to shipping place where they do it for you and then charge you an arm and a leg. Help!

Thanks. I would mail stuff via the Vatican Post Office. Poste Italiane is not quite as bad anymore, but their reputation hasn't caught up yet. In any case, the challenge has been knowing where to get the needed mailing supplies. Thanks for the suggestions!

Unless you ask a local, I too would start with Mailboxes Etc. As I recall, they do sell the supplies. I've also used them to ship and don't recall them charging much for the packing and supplies. It's the actually shipping that will bankrupt you... If you're not shipping through a place like Mailboxes Etc, then I assume you are taking your chances with the Italian Post? It will be cheaper but less reliable.

For letters: The Postal Service has 1-foot and 2-foot trays. If this is the first time you've mailed, take a few of each and be sure to always return the extras. The next time you do a mailing, you'll have a better idea of the number of trays you need.

Every container of mail (tray or sack) MUST have a label. The label tells the Postal Service the destination of the mail in that tray or sack. Ask the Business Mail Entry Unit clerk to help you find the right labels. For your future mailings you'll have a better idea of what labels you use on a regular basis.

Mailers use postage statementsto record the number of pieces in a mailing and calculate the applicable postage. Hardcopy postage statements are available on the Postal Explorer website by choosing "Postage Statements" from the Business Solutions drop down menu. They are also available at local Business Mail Entry Units.

At Parcel Plus in McLean, you'll find a wide variety of shipping supplies: cardboard boxes (corrugated boxes), Bubble Wrap, Pelanspan loosefill (also known as packaging peanuts or packaging poopcorn), packaging tape, padded & bubble mailing envelopes, shipping tubes, mailing tubes and much more.

However, there is a restriction to keep in mind when getting free boxes from USPS. When shipping your products, your mailing service must match the service listed on the package. For instance, using a Priority Mail Express flat rate envelope means you can only use USPS Priority Mail Express service.

DHL is one of the most prominent names in international shipping. If you have a DHL account, you can order free shipping supplies from its website. Available items include boxes of various sizes, envelopes, flier bags and waybill sleeves.

You can get free shipping supplies and old boxes from local stores. Depending on what type of packaging supplies you require, you could swing by your local furniture stores, grocery stores, boutiques, etc. This practice is especially popular with the community of recyclers and is a sustainable move for the environment.

The advantage of free shipping supplies is that since you can reduce your shipping costs, your business can lower the shipping charges that customers incur. Remember, customers are looking for faster shipping times and minimal costs, so you can drive sales by presenting them with attractive shipping options.
