Microsoft AutoUpdate is only used to get updates for apps that you download directly from Microsoft. If you download Office from the Mac App Store, then the App Store will provide you with future updates of Office. You may have other Microsoft apps installed on your Mac, and AutoUpdate will continue providing updates just for those apps.

The mystery continues. As it turns out, I cannot download or purchase any content from my Mac. I've had three calls with support and they continue to ask the same questions. We did discover since I was on a beta update program I wasn't getting the most current normal update - so that is now fixed.

I want to download apps in the Mac App Store and the apps won't start to download. As you can see in the pictures below, the spinner starts spinning but nothing gets downloaded, the download simply doesn't start. I am logged in with my account. I tried logging out of the App Store and logging in again, restarting the Mac etc, nothing helped.

The only thing that worked is going to Activity Monitor and force-killing appstoreagent process. The app started to download at once. After force-killing appstoreagent, there was no need to log out and log in again in the App Store. Updates and downloads just work again.

At a high level, the App Store is a global network of load balancers that provide listings to make up the content you see in the App Store. It has a second level of load balancers that handle the transition to "buy" anything and once that transaction happens, then your account will go initiate the request to download a purchased asset.

By knowing if it's an issue with allocating that item to your account, you can do very little except sign out, sign in, try another account on your Mac or another Mac and then contact store support for purchasing support.

Also, the App Store can tell you if it's working well if you look at an app you have a backup or can afford to re-download once your account is set. Find that app in purchased and move it to trash. The App Store should change from telling you it can open that app to it can download that app pithing a few seconds of moving that app to Trash. If you attempt to re-download it, the console app will log hundreds of diagnostic messages to the logs.

I had same symptoms as greenforest except after signing out I was unable to sign in (500 error). Then I found another stack exchange answer by Adrian Voica which fixed the sign in issue, and after a restart, also let me download apps as expected.

Location tokens are volume purchase licenses that were commonly known as Volume Purchase Program (VPP) tokens. These location tokens are used to assign and manage licenses purchased using Apple Business Manager. Content Managers can purchase and associate licenses with location tokens they have permissions to in Apple Business Manager. These location tokens are then downloaded from Apple Business Manager and uploaded in Microsoft Intune. Microsoft Intune supports uploading multiple location tokens per tenant. Each token is valid for one year.

Changing the country/region will update the apps metadata and App Store URL on next sync with the Apple service for apps created with this token. The app will not be updated if it does not exist in the new country/region store.

Automatic app updates - Choose from Yes or No to enable automatic updates. When enabled, Intune detects the VPP app updates inside the app store and automatically pushes them to the device when the device checks in.

Once it's been downloaded from the Mac App Store in this way, any iOS app you get will work precisely like any Mac app. To the extent that if you didn't know where you got it from, it would be impossible to tell that it wasn't a Mac app until you launch it.

The Mac App Store launched in January of this year, to go hand in hand with the App Store for the iPhone and iPad. It may be nowhere near the dizzying heights of nearly 20 billion downloads its mobile counterpart the iOS App Store is enjoying, but we reckon 100 million in under a year since launch is pretty good going.

The iOS App Store came as a revolution to mobiles, allowing you to download hundreds of thousands of games and apps to your phone in only a few taps of the screen. The Mac App Store -- while not quite a 'revolution' -- brings the ease of downloads to desktop computers.

Apple won't have such an easy time of things when Windows 8 lands sometime next year as that too is due to get its own dedicated app store. When it launches, the millions of Windows computers across the world will have access to the store -- a significant draw for developers. Like the Windows Phone Marketplace, the desktop version will also allow you to try before you buy, a great feature on the mobile version.

Skitch for Mac version 2.0.3 is now available in the Mac App Store for immediate download and updating. You can also get it from the Auto Update feature within Skitch (for those who installed from a direct download) and from direct download at:

OS X automatically creates new "default" files for some items when they are cleaned from the system, including Finder Recent Items, Safari Cookies, etc. These newly created files are simply empty or template files used by the operating system to store data going forward. This is normal behavior for the operating system, and does not indicate any problems in cleaning the files.

Mac users should be able to download the MacOS update that introduces the App Store via the usual channels, although rather a lot of people seem to be doing it right now so you might want to wait a while before trying. 350c69d7ab
